Organisation description: Greater Manchester Visually Impaired Sports (GMVIS) is a community-led organisation dedicated to empowering blind and partially sighted individuals through inclusive sport, fitness, and social engagement. Based in Greater Manchester, we provide accessible, competitive, and recreational sporting opportunities that improve physical health, confidence, and wellbeing for people of all ages living with sight loss. Our activities are designed specifically for visually impaired participants, ensuring that everyone can take part safely, independently, and with dignity. GMVIS currently supports a growing membership through adapted sports such as Goalball, Blind Cricket and, soon, VI Football. Our flagship programme, the Greater Manchester Falcons Goalball Team, has rapidly developed into a successful competitive team with members progressing through national levels. Beyond sport, GMVIS helps reduce isolation, promote positive mental health, and build social connections by creating a friendly, supportive environment where members can learn, achieve, and belong. We also work with local organisations, schools, and sensory support services to raise awareness and increase participation in visually impaired sport. Our mission is simple: to ensure that blind and partially sighted residents across Greater Manchester have access to life-changing sporting opportunities that build strength, resilience, independence, and community.
