Bolton Community and Voluntary Services (CVS)

What is GM Live Well?

GM Live Well is a movement across Greater Manchester written into the GM Mayors (Andy Burnham) manifesto pledge.

It is a partnership between GMCA, NHS GM Integrated Care and the VCSE sector across Greater Manchester to ensure people get the support they need, at the right time, in the right place.

With new devolved powers and funding, the ‘Live Well’ approach aims to reduce welfare spending, ease pressure on the NHS and help grow the economy.

What is GM Live Well? GM Live Well is Greater Manchester’s commitment to ensuring great everyday support is available in every neighbourhood. Together, communities, public services and partners can tackle health, social and economic inequalities by changing how we work together to grow opportunities for everyone to Live Well.

GM Live Well is about making sure everyone across GM has the resources and connections to be healthy, connected and able to Live Well. This includes:

What is Bolton Live Well?

The “Live Well” initiative in Bolton aims to compliment the GM aims and goals by creating and nurturing the conditions of community-led solutions to tackling health inequalities and improving health and well-being outcomes across the borough.

There are various projects happening across Bolton. These are:

Live Well Accelerator Site:
A programme for Bolton Public Health and Bolton CVS to test and learn new ways of working. Bolton has been highlighted as an example of good practice around workforce development, so this programme aims to build on those strengths. There is an added focus on increasing health literacy across local populations and increasing community voice and influence in public services.
Started in 2023 due to finish in 2025.

Live Well Community Fund:
A collaboration project between Bolton Public Health Bolton CVS, for the VCSE sector. The community fund will be used to trial a community-led approach to distributing grant money in the hyper-local area of Bolton Central South neighbourhood. This is a test and learn project that will work with the Integrated Neighbourhood Partnerships to share local knowledge and expertise on what helps people to ‘Live Well’ in the area.
Started in 2025 due to finish in 2026.

Live Well CVD and Diabetes – Do it for you:
A collaboration project between Bolton CVS and Bolton GP Federation for the VCSE sector. It aims to provide community-based approaches to tackling CVD and Diabetes risks in the hyper-local area of Bolton Central South neighbourhood. The ‘Do it for you’ project will be used to trial how gathering insight from local people’s knowledge around risk factors and how clinical interventions can have a different impact on people when delivered by trusted VCSE’s. This project is aligned with the NHS ICB ‘Multi-Year Prevention Plan’ and builds on the strengths of existing local work.
Started in early 2025 due to finish in late 2025.

Live Well Economic Inactivity Trailblazer:
A collaboration project between Bolton Council, Bolton CVS, Integrated Neighbourhood Teams and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). It aims to engage and support local people who have either been out of work for a long period or who have never worked to make further steps towards employment. There is a recognition that many people are not psychologically or physically ready to engage with employment support, or that the support offered often does not meet their needs. Using learnings from the projects mentioned above, partnerships will participate in deciding the best VCSE-led solutions for their hyper-local area.
Due to start in 2026 with possibility of recurrent funding up until 2027/28.
