Compressed Folders and Zip Files
We use compressed folders which are sometimes called "zip files" for sending on information such as job application packs. A zip file contains one or more files that have been compressed to reduce file size. You need to extract the contents of a zip file onto your hard drive to use these files properly. If you are using Vista, then you should be able to do this easily. If you are using a different Operating System, (such as Windows 95), you will need another software program to help you do this. Go to Google and type in "Zip" and the name of your operating system for more help.
Microsoft Office Documents
At Bolton CVS, we use Microsoft Office 2007 for our word processing, presentations, spreadsheets and desk top publishing documents.
If you are using software that is earlier than 2007, you may be unable to read our online Microsoft documents. For a full set of Microsoft viewers and converters, please go to http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/downloads/HA010449811033.aspx (external link).
Alternatively, you may wish to install Open Office which should open all our online files. This is the leading open-source office software suite for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, graphics, databases and more. It is available in many languages and works on all common computers. It stores all your data in an international open standard format and can also read and write files from other common office software packages. It can be downloaded and used completely free of charge for any purpose. More info at http://www.openoffice.org/
