Press Release: Volunteering Matters in Bolton

Date:
Mon, 01/06/2020

Each year, Bolton Community and Voluntary Services (Bolton CVS) celebrates Volunteers Week which takes place from 1st - 7th June.

This year, we feel it is more important than ever to recognise the vital role volunteers have played during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Therefore, our theme is ‘Volunteering matters…time to say thanks’.

There has been an incredible response with hundreds of groups mobilising thousands of volunteers right across Bolton. We’d like to say a big Bolton THANK YOU to every single one of you that has volunteered whether that’s with one of the many voluntary and community groups in Bolton, as an Urgent Response Volunteer or by being a Good Neighbour to someone in your street – you are amazing!

Darren Knight, Chief Executive at Bolton CVS said:

‘Over the past few months I’ve seen volunteers going over and above, every single day, giving time morning, noon and night and covering bank holidays. Ringing people, dropping off food, checking in on vulnerable families, sorting out paperwork, carrying boxes; volunteers have been helping out however they can.

The contribution of every single volunteer has made such a difference. Before Covid, volunteers made Bolton special. During Covid, every volunteer demonstrated the power of community, how volunteering is rewarding not only for the people that benefit, but also for the place where we live. People giving their time freely to help others has made a difference and that’s the magic of volunteering.

Thanks for every hour you’ve given, every drop of sweat and for the special things that you’ve made happen as a volunteer in Bolton.’

Tony Oakman, Chief Executive at Bolton Council said:

‘More than ever in these challenging times volunteering is a fundamental cornerstone of life in Bolton. As we have seen over the past few months it has made a huge difference to people’s lives. Volunteers have helped thousands of people find friends, connect with the community, learn new skills and support the most vulnerable. It’s part of the Bolton DNA and on behalf of the Bolton Family we thank you for your time and wonderful contribution.’
