The Effective Trustee - Understanding Your Legal Responsibilities

Trustees are the people in charge of a charity. They help to make the UK the sixth most giving country in the world. They play a vital role, volunteering their time and working together to make important decisions about the charity’s work. Trustees’ Week is an annual event to showcase the great work that trustees do and highlight opportunities for people from all walks of life to get involved and make a difference.

This two hour seminar delivered by David Porter, Consultant with Fieldings Porter Solicitors , is aimed at existing charity trustees that would like to refresh their knowledge and understanding of their responsibilities.

The seminar will give an overview of your legal responsibilities and will cover key aspects of your duties including:

• Recruiting charity trustees and eligibility

• Primary responsibilities of charity trustees

• Compliance with your charity’s governing document and the law

• Managing your charity’s resources responsibly

• Benefits to trustees and conflicts of interest • Liability of trustees and where you may need to consider incorporation.
