Across the country, people are organising into informal groups of volunteers in response to Covid-19 in order to help people in their local communities. These groups are often called ‘mutual aid groups’.
Come and hear from mutual aid groups in Bolton, find out what is a mutual aid group and the fantastic work they have done to support vulnerable people and how visionary members of communities emerged to be a catalyst for the local community.
The session will:
- Give an opportunity for some mutual aid groups to showcase their work. We will have Lend a Hand Horwich, Over Hulton Community Group and Bury Mutual Aid to voice their experiences.
Provide an opportunity for perceptions to be examined. Because of their informality, mutual aid groups report that they sometimes struggle to receive recognition from others who are engaged in more traditional forms of community engagement.
Provide an opportunity for groups working in isolation to hear of other groups - sharing lessons, styles, ideas and experiences.
- Give you an opportunity to find out how Bolton CVS can support you around basic governance, apply for funding, helping to look at risk management and safeguarding policies.
By the end of the session, you will have an appreciation of the unique and positive characteristics of mutual aid groups as a model of building stronger communities.
The session will take place via Zoom and a link will be sent nearer to the time.
