Bolton Wanderers Community Trust (BWCT)

Bolton Wanderers Community Trust received £3000 from the Bolton Vision Grants Fund to run the SCARF project which uses football as a medium to build community cohesion among young people. Between January and April 2011 BWCT staff have run weekly classroom and sports sessions for 40 Year 7 pupils from Sharples and Bolton Schools. They have explored human relationships and racism, using footballers own experiences as talking points, as well as getting regular exercise and improving football skills. Project leader Paul Makinson said "The skills they have learned are easiy transferable to the football field and everyday life and will lead to them living in stable and safe communities.

Bolton Crosssroads - Caring for Carers

Bolton Crossroads used a Breaks for Carers grant to take four groups of carers to Marple Wharf for a day on the canal. Carers benefit mentally from going out in different surrounding and in the company of others, as it is a break from the stresses of life at home. They are able to share problems with people who understand and also have a fun day out.

         Rock It Collective

Young People interested in bands have been taking part in training events around technical and performance skills as well as practical skills like first aid and manual handling thanks to a Grassroots Grant. They have also organised three band performance events including one in Bolton Town Centre in September 2010. Whilst taking part in all this  seven members have achieved a Bronze Arts Award in music leadership and will be going on to do the silver.
