Lloyds TSB Foundation announces increased income

Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales has announced an increased income on £25.247m for 2010 and confirmed that this higher level of funding will be sustained for 2011, 2012 and 2013.

The independently run Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales supports charities that help disadvantaged people play a fuller role in the community and over the last five years has made grants totalling over £100m. This funding has provided support in over 97% of local authorities throughout England and Wales and is weighted towards the most deprived areas. This has resulted in the creation of over 1800 jobs and 5000 volunteering opportunities.

Linda Kelly, Chief Executive commented: "We are particularly please to be able to continue to provide a high level of sustained support to those most disadvantaged within our communities. For our survey of over 700 small and medium charities spread throughout England and Wales, we know the impact of the current very difficult economic climate has been significant:

• 80% of these charities have seen an increased demand for services
• 50% are unable to meet increasing demand because of lack of income
• 51% seeing much more interest in volunteering but are unable to meet the growing demand

In addition

• 70% say that the funding environment has been harmed
• 50% have seen a fall in income compared to last year
• The smallest and most vulnerable charities are being hit the hardest
• 41% say it is significantly harder than last year to raise funds
• 60% expect it will be significantly harder in the next 12 months

Lloyds TSB Foundation hopes that their continued approach as a leading community funder will help to provide much needed support and core funding for charities working with the most disadvantaged within our society today.
