This masterclass will explore the current political and social contexts that we are operating within and the implications for volunteering and volunteer management. The session is relevant for anyone who manages or co-ordinates volunteers and those with strategic responsibility for volunteering.
Through information sharing and interactive discussion, we will learn more about:
- How Brexit might affect volunteer involvement and our working practices around volunteering
- Devolution in Greater Manchester and how this is shaping volunteering
- What we can learn from recent social mass participation movement
Laura is a specialist in volunteer involvement and volunteer management, with nearly 20 years’ experience working in this field. Her background includes working for both volunteer involving and volunteer infrastructure organisations. She spent a number of years as a member of the management team at George House Trust; Greater Manchester's HIV health and wellbeing charity. She has also led youth volunteering programmes, was chair of Volunteering Greater Manchester and a member of the North West England Volunteer Development Council. She now works as a freelance consultant; supporting organisations to establish, grow and develop volunteering and delivering training, learning and mentoring for volunteer managers. Laura has recently spoken at a range of events and conferences including Inside Government’s Volunteer Management Forum, World Volunteer Conference and Manchester’s Voluntary Sector Assembly. In a voluntary capacity, Laura has been a Support Facilitator with the Leaders in GM Place Based Leadership Programme. She is also a qualified relationship therapist working with couples and individuals.
