COPD stands for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. In the U.K 600,000 people have been diagnosed with COPD and 30,000 people die of this condition every year. COPD affects a person’s breathing and makes it difficult to do simple tasks.
'You think of Air Differently when you have to carry it' – Pat
'Most people don't think twice about breathing. Our bodies are naturally made to breathe. But when you have COPD, breathing is always something you think about, especially when you have to carry it with you'
By playing our Breathe Easy Card Game you can find out more about the signs and symptoms of COPD and whether you need to be tested for it. The game is similar to Top Trumps but with a twist. Each card has a man’s profile and a list of signs and symptoms linked to COPD and smoking. Each symptom is scored out of 50. The person with the highest score wins the card. Our Breathe Easy Card Game can be played with two people or in a larger group when we also play our Breathe Easy Quiz. Here you can find out what a spirometer is and try out our simple exercise challenge.
Players feel that they have learnt a lot from the game. A recent participant has made an appointment to have a spirometer test at his doctors and has decided to try and quit smoking.
Many of you will know Liz Dawn who played Vera Duckworth in Coronation Street. She suffers from emphysema which is a COPD condition. She now encourages people to stop smoking. Liz had to quit her role as Vera because she struggled to walk or talk any distance without getting breathless.
Don’t delay, contact us today to arrange a workshop. We can deliver our workshop to a community group, a group of friends or on a one to one basis.
