Breaks for Carers

Grant Aims

The grant is funded by Bolton Council's Adult and Community Services Department and forms part of the Bolton Carers Strategy. Grants up to £800 for carers groups, self help groups and voluntary groups who support carers, to allow carers to have a short break; for example a theatre trip, pampering sessions or a meal out.

Definition of a Carer

The government definition (from the National Carers Strategy of June 2008) states that: 'A carer spends a significant portion of their life providing unpaid support to family or potentially friends. This could be caring for a partner, relative or friend who is ill, frail or disabled or has mental health or substance misuse problems.'

The Princess Royal Trust for Carers states that: 'A carer is someone who, without payment, provides help and support to a partner, child, relative, friend or neighbour, who could not manage without their help. This could be due to age, physical or mental illness, addiction or disability.

Who Can Apply?

The grant is available to voluntary and community groups based and of benefit to carers in Bolton. This grant does not fund breaks for individual carers or carers aged under 18. When Can I Apply?

The next deadlines is at 4pm onFriday 17th February 2012 for activities planned to start after 17th March.

This is only for groups that have not received a Breaks for Carers grant since 1st June 2011.
