Alcohol Project
Sobering Thoughts
The majority of people living in Britain drink alcohol. Whilst many enjoy alcohol in moderation a growing number of people are drinking in a way which will have a negative effect on their health and well being.
24.4% Of Bolton residents drink over the recommended limits of alcohol. The Community Engagement Team in partnership with NHS Bolton have produced a thought provoking 25 minute DVD called ‘Sobering Thoughts’ with stories and experiences from people living and working in Bolton about the impact alcohol has on their lives.
‘Because people are feeling quite well when they are misusing alcohol they do not realise the damage that it is doing.’ Sandra Crompton, Liver Nurse
‘Family things, things going wrong with my relationship started me drinking. I was choosing drinking over my children.’ Chris Gregory – Bolton Resident
The DVD will be used as a tool to encourage people to reflect on how much they are drinking and to think of ways that they may be able to enjoy alcohol more sensibly. It can be accompanied by our workshop where you can try our unit measuring exercise or take part in a quiz to find out the real impact of alcohol on your health.
For more information on this workshop or if you would like to view the DVD please contact Louise McDade on 01204 546047.
